Silpakorn University, Thailand’s first fine arts university, was established since 1943 by Professor Silpa Bhirasri (Professor Corrado Feroci), an Italian artist and sculptor who came to Thailand in 1923 and dedicated his life to modern art in Thailand. The establishment of Silpakorn University marked the beginning of modern art in Thailand and the start of the Thai art scene’s rise to international standards. Silpakorn University has been known as the country’s first institution to offer a program in printmaking and the university’s academic reputation has been widely accepted both nationally and internationally. |

The prints works created and displayed over the years by Silpakorn Alumni ’s artists have received a tremendous amount of interest and attention. At present, the artists and professors at Silpakorn University raise the level of their teaching and their artistic creativity to reach a high standards to the extent that can compete and be awarded the prestigious prizes at numerous international competitions in Europe, America, and Asia As a result, Silpakorn University is extremely delighted and proud to provide the forum where Thai artists and printmakers can demonstrate their competence to the world and where they can interact with artists from around the world to share their experience and expertises in artistic and cultural perspectives. |

To this betterment, the Art and Culture Office of Silpakorn University had instigated the 1st International Print and Drawing Exhibition on the occasion of 60th Anniversary Celebration of Silpakorn University and on the auspicious occasion of 48th Birthday Anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakkri Sirindhorn in 2003. |

From the 1st Exhibition, there was a total of 3,975 works that participated in the first round selection, works entened by 1,036 artists from 58 countries around the world. This is also the first time for an international printing and drawing competition held in Thailand and Asia. |

With our experience and expertise , Silpakorn University, in cooperation with the Siam Cement Foundation, Thailand will arrange the 2nd Bangkok Triennial International Print and Drawing Exhibition which is scheduled to be held every three years to offer Thai and foreign artists an opportunity to display their most recent works and to demonstrate the progressive development of Modern Art in Thailand, which enhances the interaction and exchange of cultures among people, not only from countries throughout the region, but through out the world. This exhibition is also considered as a contributive activity for celebrating the occasion of 65th Anniversary of Silpakorn University in 2008. |
